Known as the "Father of Abstract Art", Kandinsky was the first artist to paint pictures that didn't look like anything real!
Kandinsky had a rare gift — he could SEE sounds and HEAR colors!
When he heard a trumpet, he might see bright yellow. When he saw the color blue, he might hear a deep cello!

At age 30, hearing this opera made Kandinsky quit his job as a lawyer forever! He said the music painted wild colors in his mind that he just HAD to capture on canvas.

Set the mood! Put on your favorite music. Listen for a minute. What colors pop into your mind? What shapes do you imagine?

Stamp the shapes! Dip the foam shapes in paint and stamp circles, triangles, and squares all over your canvas. Don't worry about being perfect!

Layer and overlap! Let shapes touch and interact — just like Kandinsky did. Big shapes behind, small shapes in front. Make them dance!

Add brush details! Use your brushes to paint wavy lines, tiny dots, zigzags, or geometric patterns between the shapes.

Let it dry & show it off! Wait about 30 minutes for your painting to dry completely. Then hang it up and tell everyone what song inspired it!
💡 Parent Tip: All supplies are non-toxic and washable! Lay down newspaper or a plastic sheet for easy cleanup. Smocks or old t-shirts recommended!
